What is Coaching?

According to the International Coach Federation, coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential…. Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes and managing personal change.” 

I work with leaders and educators through 1:1 personalized conversations and small groups. Our work is confidential and designed to suit your goals and focus areas, build on your values and strengths to get you more of what you want in life and work, and less of what you don’t want on the path to becoming the best version of YOU.

Imagine someone who would like to learn to play a musical instrument. One might first begin by taking 1:1 lessons, then join an ensemble like band or orchestra.

In the same way, coaching is like taking strategic 1:1 lessons to bring out your best and use helpful tools to learn any new strategies needed. You could spend hours, years, and a lifetime growing as a musician; and it’s no surprise that we need to keep growing as adults throughout our lives just this same way.

Coaching is like music lessons for the spirit, heart, and mind. And group coaching can be like joining a band, where you learn and grow with other like-minded people, and share your own contributions as well.

Does Coaching Work?

Coaching processes and activities can help you build awareness to see beyond your current reality. Through the process, you can uncover assumptions you have that can hold you back when you’re trying to make a change. You can also identify your values and strengths, so that you can more purposefully use them in  your life and work. 

A new perspective might be your ticket to a mindset change that gives you confidence and strength to be the “you” you’ve always wanted to be.

Coaching isn’t a “magic bullet.” Mindset change and personal development do take time and effort. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do need to regularly work your plan to achieve results. 

Coaching has worked for me in many significant ways, and I believe everyone can benefit from coaching.

How is Coaching Different from Therapy?

Coaching focuses on visioning, success, the present and moving toward the future. In contrast, therapy emphasizes psychopathology, diving into the past to understand the present, healing, and understanding, and it works more with developing skills for managing emotions or past issues than does coaching (From CoachingFederation.Org)

What is the Coaching Experience?

Before establishing a coaching agreement, we meet for an initial consultation to determine whether we’d like to work together. Next, individual coaching sessions are conducted over ZOOM during a 30-45 minute time, scheduled when we can both be available, typically once weekly or bi-weekly. A coaching duration of 3-6 months is recommended for maximum benefit.

For group coaching, group coaching sessions are conducted over ZOOM calls at a designated time as specified in the group coaching class agreement. Group calls are recorded and shared privately with group participants, so that a participant who might miss the session can stay engaged and make progress despite time conflicts.
