#83: How to Let Go of a Challenging Situation

In today’s podcast we talk about mindset, and specifically how to leave the past behind, let go of a challenging situation, and look forward to create new possibilities. When stuck in a situation that doesn’t go as planned this kind of freedom is just what we’re looking for.

Have you ever tried to let something go, but found it just kept coming to your mind?

In the story I tell as an example today, that is exactly what happens. When something stressful won’t leave your mind, and you are trying to move on, it takes time and energy away from what we need to do in other areas of life and work.

To change the discussion, we use a tool with the circle of control, circle of influence, and circle of concern. This tool can help you identify what you can and cannot change, and find ways to focus in the areas where your time and energy can have an impact.

Some areas we typically think we can control, but over which we have very little influence, are:

  • What others say
  • Other people’s opinions of us
  • Whether other people agree with us
  • Whether others like or dislike us
  • Whether people are happy with us or pleased by us

And yet we can never control what other people say, think, or do.

Join me in this episode to explore the idea of letting go of tough situations, and find a new way to use the circle of control tool as well.
